Our day two, in Monterey, started out with pushing a stranded girls BMW, through an intersection, on our way to breakfast – seems she ignored the fuel light for some time, like a quarter tank. So, feeling as though we had an accomplished an heroic gesture, we ate like kings at a local breakfast place…actually took us a half a block to get our breathing back to normal, getting old sucks!

We then shined up our cars and headed off to the Porsche Club Concourse event. The venue was huge, had hundreds of cars, and best of all…it was FREE to get in. Porsche’s of all ages were there, even the new 918 Spyder, which we actually passed in town on our way there…the sound is amazing, can only image what is was like to drive. Porsche North America was here as well, and brought with them all the latest offerings. The new Targa wasn’t there…yeah, we thought that was strange too, however, we ended up passing it on our way out of there, apparently being that there are only a few of them in existence, it was doing time at another venue. The event was a great way to see the evolution of the brand, the early 911’s looked like you could actually pick it up and move it, such a simple car, noth’n but the basics…then there was the new GT3, what an incredible car, you would think a beast like this would be hard to keep moving so slowly, but was just putted along the grounds until the owner found a spot to park…would love to drive one.

From the Porsche event, we went over to the European Concourse. This concourse was made up of anything from Germany, except apparently Porsche…Audi, Benz, BMW were all on display, this was the first time this show has been part of this weekend. Normally, at these types of events, you see maybe only a couple really rare cars, well…here were not one, not two, but 3 MB 300SL’s, yes the Gullwing!! There were also a few M1’s, one BMW F1 and P1 race cars.

Both concourse events were a great add to the weekend, a great alternative to paying hundreds to get into the Quale.

From there, we were treated like the kings we had become earlier in the day. John’s nephew works at the Inn at Spanish Bay, so he set us up with some great drinks and eats. They have a tradition of having a Bag Piper show around 6pm, he plays off in the distance and then makes his way up to the patio, a nice way to close out the day.

Stay tuned for Day 3, when we head out to Laguna Seca to watch the vintage races.
