GM Learns eBay The Hard Way

In follow up to my eBay story below, you may have also heard that GM and eBay partnered up in California for a test program to sell new cars. Out of 16,228 vehicles listed there have only been 45 completed sales. The listings post full retail price minus incentives with a “Best Offer” button. However, dealers are reporting that people are coming into the dealership to complete the sale.

This speaks directly to the point I made earlier today. eBay serves as a great advertising tool, but when it comes time to buy people want to hear the doors ka-chunk. In doing so they kick eBay to the curb and buy directly. Then you (or the dealer) loses the ability to add positive feedback to the account which is so critical to building a successful sales reputation and trust for future customers.
