My daughter keeps talking about getting a camper. I always correct her and say “it’s not a camper honey, it’s a van down by the river.” I rather like the coupe version looks over a pop up but I imagine the pop up is much more usable. Still this one ticks a lot of boxes.

On Northern Michigan Craigslist.

“1974 Volkswagen Bus. Westphalia camper interior that sleeps two. I believe they refer to these as a “Tin-top Westphalia”. 1700 cc “pancake” engine. This is the first Porsche-based “pancake” used , and I have heard some enthusiasts say it was the best. It was rebuilt about 30k ago. The rebuild included new cylinders, pistons, rings, bearings, and a cam kit which gave it hydraulic lifters (no more adjusting valves every 2000 miles). I also converted the dual carbs to a single 2bbl carb, but I kept all the old dual carb stuff including the oil bath air cleaner. It runs and drives(I have put about 200 miles on it recently), but I am still working out some “bugs”. There was a minor issue when I last had it on the road and a few things from sitting. So far I have put a new Pertronix Flamethtrower distributor & electronic ignition on it, as well as a new fuel pump & filter. The alternator is new and the rear brakes are new also (including e-brake cables). The carb may still need some tweaking or replaced. If someone wanted it as-is I would gladly negotiate the price. It has an older restoration(about 20 yrs), but is still very nice. I was told it was a Texas van and it looked like it compared to MI vans. The front wheel arches NEVER had rust. The only rust repaired was very minor areas including rockers, panel underneath rear eng. compartment door, battery tray, and a little around a rear wheel arch. There are a couple of those spots re-appearing, but they are small. I have owned this for 20 years and it has never been on the road in the winter since, nor do I believe it was prior. It has been sitting off and on with only an occasional drive for about 9 years or so. Too many kids and not enough seat belts! It’s time for it to go to someone who can enjoy it. Has an old school Alpine pull-out stereo with a remote 6 disc changer that still rocks. Also pictured is the child/luggage hammock. This is a very clean and solid bus that is still a real head turner!”
