"Cash for Clunkers" Bill, What’s all the Fuss?

posted in: Online Around the Net | 0

By now you’ve heard much about the bill: Buyers of new vehicles between July 1 and November 1 will be given a voucher for $3500 if they forfeit a post-1984 car or truck that has been registered for at least one year and has a combined fuel economy rating at least 4 mpg lower than their new vehicle. The voucher grows to $4500 if the increase in fuel economy is 10 mpg or higher. The old car or truck is then crushed and recycled.

The media spends way too much time over analyzing this thing. Here’s all you need to know to correctly judge this bill:

1. Have you tried to get a new car loan these days? “Forfeiting” your ride might mean you’re walking.
2. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. In fact, I just got this truck good and broken in.
3. If it passes emissions, that’s good enough for me.
4. Automatic seat belts. I got your strangle right here pal.
5. 80’s – Big hair, big sweat shirts and bad car design. Really what car are you worried about giving up?
