24 Hours of LeMons

This morning I got to thinking about the 24 Hours of LeMons race and wondered what was out there for the $500 spending limit on the entry vehicle.  Now of course $500 is just the starting point if you want to go endurance racing.

The real money gets spent in the no-spend-limit safety gear such as: brakes, roll cage, fuel cell, seat, harness, suit, helmet, tires, etc.  All said and done you are probably looking at roughly $7,000 to get a car outfitted.  But by racing standards, that there is dog gone cheap.  Split it with three buddies and you see why the event turns away applicants.  The key to getting accepted?  Make your car theme a stand out.  Think Burning Man on a race track.

So without further ado here are some Craigslist picks that I think can be had around the nickel mark.  Leave it to me to want to race BMWs.
