2007 Morgan Aero 8

UPDATE: No one bid at $82,500 or bought it now on June 8, 2011.

Original Post: On eBay for $86,500 from the original owner with only 1,957 miles.  Not many in the states or anywhere else for that matter.  Gorgeous car, had to post it.

“Very rare 2007 Morgan Aero 8. This is the most desirable series of the car, with wider cockpit, larger trunk and updated headlights. This example is the next to last US-bound Aero 8 with manual transmission. It arrived in February 2008. Custom ordered by me and carefully driven over only 1957 miles. Based on the Aero 8 America, this car has standard side louvers instead of the odd plate from the America. It has the classic interior finish. It does have America forged wheels, factory painted to match.

Car has always been garaged. Car is in superb condition, as you would expect for such low miles. There are some very small areas of discoloration on the seats, mainly where the seat belt rubs the seat cushion. The paint has some very minor blemishes and came that way from the factory (this car is hand made in very low volume in a pre-war facility). I’m sure there are some marks down near the road, though I don’t see them. This car does not have the cover for the roof when the top is down, but one is available from Morgan.

The Aero 8 is the modern, all-aluminum Morgan.

The design features an aerospace-bonded aluminum monocoque chassis with refined aerodynamics.

It also uses a fuel-injected 32 valve 4.4 liter V-8 and 6 speed manual transmission from BMW with 325 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque.

Total weight is 2519 lb., making it the lightest street-legal V-8 powered car of its era.

0-60 is quoted by Morgan at under 4.5 sec.

Wheels are Morgan design, forged, with Avon 225/40/18 front and 245/40/18 rear tires. Tire pressure monitoring is included.

Morgan uses AP Racing anti-lock brakes with 13.7″ front (with 6 pot calipers) and 13.1″ rear discs. The car also has electronic brake distribution and drag control torque.

This Aero 8 features the following options:

Special Order Flint Mica exterior paint (a standard Lexus color for ease of matching in US)

Beige leather interior with black piping

Rustproofing

Morgan Car Cover (outdoor with Morgan logo)

FM/CD/Sirius satellite radio (Pioneer Premier, classic style)

Side exit exhaust

Raven ash wood trim

Bonnet louvers and fender louvers

Aero 8 America wheels, painted to match body

Original price was $140,376 (purchased from North Shore Imports, Lake Bluff, Illinois, an authorized Morgan dealer)

The Aero 8 has an interesting racing history at Le Mans, which is the subject of a book written by ex-Morgan PR man Matthew Parkin. The car has also been successfully campaigned in the European GT3 series.

The car is also technically interesting, not only for its light weight design, but for its unusual suspension which avoids the use of anti-roll bars (a trait recently exploited by the 2012 McLaren MP-4/12) to avoid undamped springs.

The car is a joy to drive because it is light, powerful and full of spirit. The side exhausts are quiet at cruise, but when you get into the throttle you know there’s a V-8 up front no uncertain terms. This is a car for people who like to feel and hear what is going on while driving. It is also a great car if you don’t want to see yourself coming and going — there are only a handful of these in the US. There will probably never be a car like this again — a modern Morgan with a manual.”
