1992 Mazda AZ-1

This would be the ultimate novel car in my book while being completely practical for two adults.  It would make a great commuter until it snows.  Then 1,598 pounds distributed 50/50 spins on slush.  Or it gets parked in your garage to save it from salt.
Should I be able to talk my wife into it, I’ll let you know.  I believe you’ll have trouble trying to import it from Canada unless it is 25 years old.  Most come in on a “revised” older title otherwise NHTSA pushes crash/safety regulations down you while ignoring the virtues of purpose built cars from far away lands.

While this is red, I do prefer its clean lines to the yellow one I cover back in April that had a big wing.  On eBay for $7,900 or Make Offer.

“The AZ-1 is a small 2-door, 2-seater GULLWING COUPE weighing just 725 kg (1,598 lb).

The AZ1 is powered by a turbocharged, intercooled 3-cylinder, 657cc DOHC engine (just under the 660cc maximum displacement allowed for a Kei car). Its dimensions also conformed to Kei car regulations on length and width, being 3,295 mm (129.7 in) long and 1,395 mm (54.9 in) wide.

Front-rear weight distribution is 50/50% when both seats are occupied. Layout is front mid-engined and rear-wheel drive.

Power output was a claimed 63 hp (47 kW; 64 PS) @ 6500 rpm to fit under the maximum power allowed for Kei cars.

The AZ1 features 4-wheel disc brakes, power-assisted steering, aluminium double wishbone suspension and rear wheel drive.

It is the most fun car you can drive – giving you about 50 miles to the gallon and I kid you not – it can easily do 100 miles per hour on the highway!
