1989 LaForza 5.0

When this came out I was at Automobile magazine.  I squawked, “Who would buy a re-badged full size Bronco for $40K when you could buy a Range Rover for that price?”   It turned out, not many.  But now, this 84,000 mile La”Ford”za is advertised for $2,990 Buy it Now in Columbus, Ohio.  At that price it is certainly worth the spailin’ you’ll do.  Seriously, I’d buy it if I could spare a dime brother.

The guy does a good job copying Wikipedia with the details.  But for some reason, I’m not buying it.  I’ve told myself for years it’s a Bronco and to hear: “This vehicle was based on an Iveco military 4×4 VM90 (40-10 frame) that was shortened and lowered. The front and rear differentials, suspension, and brakes were carried over from the Iveco truck.” well, it just doesn’t jive with me Shouldn’t an Italian designed and disguised military vehicle be worth more than $3K?

Maybe this is the SUV equivalent of a Maserati BiTurbo – lots of supple leather wrapped in a “pretty” package that falls apart if you drive it.  Except the Ford V8 should be reliable.  22 years later I still don’t get the LaForza but I’d be willing to take the gamble.  Did I already say that?  Oh, yup.

Since 1989 there has ALWAYS been a Laforza on eBay. I think it’s the same 3 trucks that are rotated.
