1987 TVR 280i Automatic Targa Top – $1 (Eastside)

TVRs have always intrigued me. A collection of parts wrapped in a wedge. This one happens to be a Ford V6 mated to an automatic which doesn’t inspire but according to the seller who has driven and owned the manuals, you’re better off with it. It shoulda had a V8 IMHO.

Find it for sale on Detroit Craigslist with the following from the seller as of March 15, 2018.

“1987 TVR 280i. One of the last one imported into the states. (Different ground effects). V-6 Ford. 26,000 miles. Car has been stored in climate controlled storage for the last 13 years, but driven a couple weeks each year during the summer. AUTOMATIC transmission which drives way better than a stick. (I know, this is my 3rd TVR). Team Dynamics Racing Wheels (have stock wheels and tires). Fully adjustable Spax shocks. Factory MOMO steering wheel. Custom exhaust. White with Navy Blue top and interior. Never driven winters. VERY clean underside too. Just tuned up with new plugs, cap and wires. Very fun car to drive. Lots of looks and very reliable. Very nice car, just needs a little attention. $15,000 or best offer. Call Mike @ show contact info between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. EST. Call for more details. TEXTS WILL NOT BE ANSWERED. EVER.

Body and paint is in near perfect condition. Car has NEVER been painted. NO rust on frame.

The seats could use new covers because the vinyl side panels have discolored and has some cracks in it but seating area are in great shape for 29 year old car. Rear window is not perfectly clean but not bad either. (See picture). Most of the time the top is down so this is a non issue. “

    Hi,
I have a TVR 280i 1987 and was admiring the fact that you installed an automatic transmission on yours.
How did you figure out what auto transmission and bell housing to match the V6 engine?
Any info you can me so I can do the same with mine?
Thank you for reading my mail and any help you can provide to a felloe TVR owner.
    Cheers!
